As a child, Gracie learned the ins and outs of modern Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from family members and earned his black belt by the age of 18 after moving to the United States. Over the next few years, his reputation grew in the mixed martial arts world and he was the winner of the first Ultimate Fighting Championship tournament on November 11, 1993. He would win the second and fourth editions of the competition and fought to an epic draw with Ken Shamrock at UFC 5. As a result of his success, many competitors began cross-training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and he returned to action with Pride Fighting Championship in 2000. A charter member of the UFC Hall of Fame, his lasting influence on one of the world's fastest-growing sports cannot be denied. Duke Snider
Snider would serve in World War II but upon his return, he quickly rose through the Brooklyn Dodgers farm system to make his big league debut in 1947. Two years later, he emerged as a star as he helped his club to a World Series appearance in his first full season. A consistent performer, the ÒDuke of FlatbushÓ had five straight seasons where he had at least 40 home runs and his monster season in 1955 saw him finish second in voting for the National League's Most Valuable Player award and also capture a World Series title. While the Dodgers would move to Los Angeles, another championship came in 1959. In 1980, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Argentina Rocca
Rocca trained for the mat wars under the legendary Stanislaus Zbyszko and made his in-ring debut 1942. Soon after, he started travelling to other territories as Argentine Rocca and would win the NWA Texas Heavyweight Championship on two occasions. In the early 1950s, he made a move to the New York territory controlled by the McMahon family and he reached main event status due to his highflying style and the arrival of television which made pro wrestling one of the most popular programs in North America. The first even International Heavyweight Champion for the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, he would also form a popular tag team with Miguel Perez.He was later inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame. In May, 1999, May-Treanor turned professional on the AVP tour but made the decision to switch to beach volleyball after a few months. Alongside partner Holly McPeak, they managed to earn a spot at the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney. The following year saw her switch partners to Kerri Walsh and the duo dominated the FIVB competition before signing with the AVP as well in 2003. Together, they would win three world titles and also Gold Medals at the Summer Games in 2004 and 2008 while also serving up a streak of 101 consecutive victories. A four-time AVP Most Valuable Player, she has earned more career tournament wins and amassed more earnings than any other woman in the history of her sport. Kerri Walsh
Often referred to as ÒSix Feet of SunshineÓ, Walsh is one of the most prominent and popular volleyball players in the world. In 2000, she began a partnership with Misty May-Treanor and the duo quickly became the most powerful pair in the sport of beach volleyball as part of the FIVB and AVP tours. In 2003, she was named the AVP's Most Valuable Player for the first time and earned the same honor the next year. At the 2004 Summer Games in Athens, she and May-Treanor won a Gold Medal without losing a single game and they followed it up in 2008 with a similar finish. The second Gold Medal was especially exciting as she came back from rotator cuff surgery to win. Scotty Ngyuen
Born in Vietnam, Nguyen came to the United States as a teenager and developed a love for the game of poker that would lead him to dizzying heights and depressing lows throughout his career. He would earn his first bracelet at the 1997 World Series of Poker Omaha 8 or Better and he followed it up by winning the No Limit Hold'em World Championship the next year. From 2000 to 2004, he finished in the money in over 100 events and he would finally win a World Poker Tour event in 2006 at the Gold Strike World Poker Open. Two years later, he was the victor at the H.O.R.S.E. World Championship and became the first player to combine this honor with the WSOP Main Event. Jim Craig
Cool under pressure in one of the biggest upsets in sports history, Craig is best remembered by hockey fans for leading the United States to defeating the mighty Soviet Union and also winning a Gold Medal at the 1980 Winter Games. He was a force to be reckoned with at the 1980 Winter Games and he would turn away 36 Soviet shots during the medal round on February 22, 1980 and his acrobatics helped the American squad retain a 4-3 lead late in the game. With the Soviet menace relegated to the Silver Medal, he would be stellar in a 4-2 defeat of Finland two days later and brought home his country's first Gold Medal in the sport since 1960. One of the most popular players in basketball history, Cham turned pro in 1958-59 with the legendary Harlem Globetrotters and moved to the NBA the next year with the Philadelphia Warriors. After winning Rookie of the Year honors, he would have an amazing performance on March 2, 1962 as he scored a record 100 points in a single game. For the rest of the decade, he was one of the sport's most prominent names and led the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers to championship glory. His impressive trophy case included four NBA Most Valuable Player awards and he was later enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Bobby Knight
Always outspoken and controversial, Knight's remarkable career as a basketball coach saw him win 902 games as a bench boss, which is an NCAA Division I record. When a coaching opportunity came up with Indiana University Hoosiers in 1971, he quickly produced on-court success before guiding the team to three NCAA Division I Tournament titles and five Regional Championships over the course of 30 seasons. A member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, he inspired many of his former charges to turn to coaching and was well-respected for running a clean program as none of his teams ever violated NCAA recruiting regulations.
